Bulbs
Some of the easiest plants to grow are flowers from bulbs, tubers and corms. Just plant flower bulbs such as tulips, daffodils, crocus and hyacinths in the fall, and they bloom in the spring. Other flower bulbs, including tender bulbs, are planted in the spring and bloom in the summer and into fall. Popular spring-planted bulbs include gladiolus, dahlias and calla lilies. For the best growth and performance, plant flower bulbs in well-drained soil that's rich in organic matter. You can improve your soil by mixing compost into it. Many flower bulbs, such as daffodils, crocus and tulips, look best when planted in groups. When selecting flower bulbs to buy, check to see if they are suitable for your grow zone. Other factors to consider are their height and spread, sunlight requirements, bloom time and color.
