Lilac
A favorite for generations, lilac bushes are some of the most popular of the spring-flowering shrubs—and with good reason. Their sweet fragrance floats on the spring air—and gorgeous flower panicles invite hummingbirds and butterflies to the garden. When you cut the flower panicles, you can bring the wonderful color and fragrance indoors. Lilacs are available in several flower colors including pink, lilac, white and yellow. They can be planted as accent plants or massed together to form an informal hedge. When buying lilac bushes, take note of the variety's mature height and spread. Some lilacs are compact, and even container friendly, while others grow quite large. Other factors to consider are hardiness zone, flower color and bloom time.
